Top 5 Foods Most Likely to Make Someone Quit Vegetarianism
I have been an off and on vegetarian for the past 8 years. At one point, I was strictly vegetarian for 5. This was an odd time in my life, people would constantly ask me why I chose not to eat meat? Is it because you strongly believe in animal rights? Is it for health reasons? Is it part of your religion? My answer was always none of the above. I simply liked the idea of being vegetarian, so I stuck with it. The strange truth was I never had a good reason to live that lifestyle, I was simply being myself. I honestly don't think this is a big deal. I don't think people should have to be able to clearly explain every life decision they make. I've seen people do far worse things than choose vegetarianism, without a reason in the world to back up their actions.
One thing many vegetarians will agree on is there comes a time when the sudden urge to eat meat springs up. This is unexplainable, people can be vegetarian for years, think everything is fine, when suddenly their brain becomes carnivore city. All they can dream about is fat, juicy, protein and not until this craving is fulfilled will they feel satisfied. I know one girl who was a vegetarian for 8 years and then suddenly realized she needed to eat a steak. She dropped all plans, went to Outback Steakhouse and now is a regular meat eater.
While not quite as drastic, I've had this same type of experience. Just the other day i gave up being vegetarian all because of one particular food that was put in front of me. I compiled a list of the Top 5 Foods Most Likely To Make Somone Quit Vegetarianism. Feel free to agree, disagree or agree to disagree.
5) Steak- There is something about a well cooked steak that can tempt anyone. This isn't a big deal for me, as I'm not much of a red meat eater, but there's something about the smell that gets people's mouths watering.
4) Chicken- It's what's for dinner! Forget beef. Don't even think about beef right now because what people really love is chicken. There is something that looks so clean about it (it is white after all). Also, I have never understood this but many people barely consider chicken meat. As far as I'm concerned, if it's an animal, it's meat. In chicken, we have something that has undoubtedly suckered many vegetarians into a wonderful world of eating birds.
3) Hamburgers- There is something so original, so old fashioned about hamburgers. This is the summertime food. If it's 4th of July and you're outside with all your friends barbecuing, what are you gonna eat? You're having a hamburger. If it's a late night of drinking and you are headed back from the bar, or to a different bar, and you pass by a 24 hour Jack In The Box, those hunger pangs are sure to strike you. Suddenly you realize you're craving food far more than another rum and Coke. When you pull into that drive through and that bored sounding lady asks to take your order, what are you going to have? It won't be a salad. "Jumbo Jack with extra napkins please, I don't want to spill hamburger sauce on my club clothes."
2) Fish- Much like chicken, people convince themselves that fish isn't real meat. The last time I checked, fish are little animals that move around, eat and have brains. Sorry but that counts as meat. If someone enjoys fish, and then goes vegetarian, this is the gateway drug. This is the food they will start eating because it gets meat in their system, but they can still convince themselves they are vegetarian. Oh, and if they're out to Mexican food and fish tacos are on the menu, it's over. Everyone loves fish tacos.
1) Chopped Liver- I know, chopped liver isn't a common meat that people crave. I'll admit I'm biased on this one, but I recently ended 6 months of being vegetarian, all thanks to the most amazing chopped liver that was piled up in front of me. This is definitely an acquired taste, but once you dig into a helping of excellent chopped liver...it is heaven in a gross sounding name. I honestly don't know what part of the animal liver comes from, and there's no way I'm about find out. My friend Google could tell me in about 10 seconds but I don't want to know. Just keep the strange, brown colored stuff coming.
These are the foods of seduction, sure to bring out the wolf in any veggie eater. It is thanks to the animals who supplied the food and the wonderful cooks who prepared the dishes, that my entire lifestyle has changed.
